Could Drastic Changes in Barometric Pressure Affect Your Horse?

During certain times of the year, dramatic weather changes can occur quickly.  One day it’s beautiful, 71 degrees and sunny, and the next day there’s a drastic 40 degree drop in the temperature.

That happened here in Texas over Christmas in 2009.  A drastic drop in the barometric pressure started to occur the day before Christmas Eve.  On Christmas Eve day a blizzard blew in bringing a heavy snow/rain and sleet mix with 45 mph winds.  For a native Texan, it was miserable.

Drastic weather changes can cause problems for both your horse and you.  When the barometer drops dramatically prior to a big storm, some horses, as well as people, can experience ill effects.

Our Most Noble Friend The Horse

As I was out walking the horse track, putting out hay and doing the regular poop-scooping regimen, I thought to myself, what am I going to write about the week of Christmas? I usually do some of my best brainstorming and come up with most of my ideas while I’m out doing my regular equine chores in the mornings.

What immediately popped into my head was this question, “What do you think about around Christmas?” and the first thing that came to mind was my father who passed away in 2002.

It’s such a different feeling from the feeling we get when we have confidence in ourselves or in our beliefs, isn’t it?

Isn’t it fantastic when you feel good about your convictions on a subject… when you know without a doubt that you are right?

Embarking upon a direction that is “out of the norm” is very intimidating and it’s not something that comes natural for most people. Each person’s life experiences are different and valuable in there own way. When we finally make the decision to change a thought process that we have held closely for so long, it can be a challenge and a bit overwhelming. This is why so many people choose not to go down the road of change, especially when it is not the “traditional” way of doing things. It’s called “the road less traveled” for a reason.

Frozen With Fear – Part 1

Have you ever heard the saying, Going from normal to natural too quickly can be hazardous to your health?

I would like to create my own version of that saying; Switching from traditional to non-traditional too quickly can be hazardous to your health.

Both statements are giving a similar message but just in a slightly different context. They’re trying to warn you that jumping into something too quickly isn’t always in your best interest or, in this case, your animal companion’s best interest.
